Description: Rest on the Flight in a park landscape, oil on wooden plate, 23.8 x 39.6 cm. Provenance: - Swiss private collection, Expertise: Dr. Klaus Ertz,15.06.2017 Jan was born in 1601 as the first child of Jan Brueghel the Elder and Isabella de Jode. The determination of the firstborn may have been from the beginning to continue the family tradition of painting. His father was next to Rubens one of the most respected painters of the early 17th century. The fact that his father, Jan Brueghel the Elder, took great care of his eldest son early on, is shown by the fact that in 1616 he was already planning a trip to Italy for his then only fifteen-year-old son. Jan Brueghel d. Finally, J. did not begin his long-awaited journey until 1622, but returned to Antwerp as early as 1625 to take over his studio after the death of his father and continue it successfully. Dr. Klaus Ertz dates the work around 1640 and states that not only the landscape with the Poseidon fountain, the animals and flowers come from Brueghel, but also the figures of the Holy Family and the angels.
