An open face pocket watch by Waltham. 9ct yellow gold case with engraved case back, hallmarked Birmingham 1925. Numbered 320470. Signed keyless wind movement with club tooth lever escapement. White dial with Roman numeral hour markers, subsidiary seconds dial to six. 48mm. 85gms. This lot features a 9ct yellow gold pocket watch and medal, which were presented to Police Constable Thomas Parsons for his valiant rescue of three individuals from drowning on separate occasions between 1909 and 1925. The case back and rear of the medal are both inscribed with 'Presented to P.C. Thomas Parsons from the Parish of Sully for life saving from the sea Nov 1927'.These rescues were recognised throughout the Vale of Glamorgan and by the Royal Humane Society, who presented certificates detailing P.C. Parson's achievements. Included is one such example, dated 8th of December 1925 which was issued for the rescue of a lady who was in imminent danger of drowning at sea near Swanbridge.P.C. Parsons not only used his strong swimming ability for saving lives. He also played a prominent role in the Penarth Water Polo Club for several years. This led him to feature multiple times on the Welsh National Water Polo Team and eventually partaking in the British Olympic water polo trials in 1912.
