"VOLUNTEER", copperplate engraving with stippling, by George Townly Stubbs (1756-1815), Engraver to His RH the Prince of Wales, after the painting by his father, published in London Dec 1994 by Messrs. Stubbs, Turf Gallery, Conduit Street, Old Print Shop of NYC label verso. Housed in black cove frame with gilt beaded liner, OS: 18 /2" x 22 1/2", impression: 15 3/4" x 19 3/4". Good condition, trimmed, not examined out of frame. A scarce example of the product of the short-lived shop in London selling original paintings by the father and prints of those paintings by the son, the first commercial effort of its kind, brought at an end by the death of Stubbs, Sr.
