A ceramic head of Mu Guiying(?) with pillbox headdress, scroll detailing to the sidewall and ribbing to the upper face; remains of red and white pigment to the surface; mounted on a custom-made stand. 8.7 kg, 30.5cm including stand (12"). Property of a North London gentleman; acquired on the UK art market before 2000. Mu Guiying is a heroine of Chinese folklore, who proved as able a warrior as any who opposed her. Finely modelled.
