Antique Bayon style Khmer bronze Lokeshvara. The sculpture is a 13th century in style Khmer Bayon Lokeshvara statue. Standing in samapada with his arms radiating around him and clad in a short sampot with fishtail pleat and jeweled sash, the face with wide features surmounted by a cylindrical headdress adorned with a meditating Buddha. HIs hands are held in the dharmachakra mudra. In sanskrit dharmachakra means the 'Wheel of Dharma'. It denotes the setting into motion of the Wheel of the teaching of the Dharma. In this mudra the thumb and index finger of each hand touch at their tips to form a circle. This circle represents the Wheel of Dharma, or in metaphysical terms, the union of method and wisdom.
