Oil on paper in the manner of Modesto Ciruelos, approx. 19x13 in. Spanish abstract painter Modesto Ciruelos died in Burgos. According to him he was "a painter who only painted". In his last two years he received several awards: the Castille and Leon Arts Award, The Burgos Medal of Honor and the Gold Martinillos. Around sixty years ago he left the world of art to dedicate himself to art in isolation. His works are part of private collections in Spain, United States, Japan, Brazil, England, France and Italy. His works are also at the National Gallery in Washington, the Queen Sofía Museum and the Atheneo of Madrid, among others. Modesto Ciruelos was born in 1908 in the town Cuevas de San Clemente, that today has less than a population of a hundred people. He was at the School of Fine Arts of San Fernando together with artists like Dalí, Zabaleta and Benjamin Palencia.
