Description: Vietnamese 17th C. Brown Glazed Engraved Ceramic Bowl W/Dragon, Phoenix & Three Fish Motif - This ceramic bowl is covered on the exterior and interior with a rich chocolate brown glaze. The exterior of the bowl is decorated with an engraved imperial dragon and phoenix motif and finished with a key fret pattern encircling the rim. The dragon has five claws, suggesting that this piece was made for imperial use, as pieces made for nobility depict dragons with five claws (while pieces made for the public use three or four claws). The interior of the bowl is also decorated with an engraved three fish motif, and the base is left unglazed. This piece comes from the estate of a Vietnamese Royal Family (the family now lives in the United States, and wishes to remain private as they still have relatives living in Vietnam). Measurements: 4"H x 9.5" in diameter.
