Description: Ming Dynasty Blue Underglazed White Porcelain Lidded Jar W/Fenghuang & Crane Motif (Has Six Character Xuande Reign Mark) - This white porcelain lidded jar is elaborately decorated in vivid cobalt blue underglaze with an ornate scene of a fenghuang (phoenix) and crane among blossoming flowers. It is believed that the Fenghuang only appears in areas or places that are blessed with utmost peace and prosperity or happiness. It is a symbol of high virtue and grace, and is said to represent power sent from the heavens to the Empress. The crane also has an auspicious meaning, and signifies longevity, happiness and smooth flight, or a smooth path through life. The jar is also decorated with an underglazed blue six character Xuande reign mark, with each character in medallions circling the perimeter of the piece. This piece comes from the estate of a Vietnamese Royal Family (the family now lives in the United States, and wishes to remain private as they still have relatives living in Vietnam). Measurements: 28"H x 19"W.
