LOT NOTES Ivan Bugayevsky-Blagodarny studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg with Stepan Semenovich Schchukin (1762-1828), graduating from the Academy in 1974. As of 1824, he was made a full Academician. Bugayevsky-Blagodarny was particularly well known for his portraiture, including his well known paintings of Borovikovsky, now in the collection of the Tretyakov Museum, as well as his portrait of Field Marshal Kutuzov from 1813. While religious in subject, the present lot demonstrates Bugayevsky-Blagodarny`s delicate treatment of his figures` poses and countenance.
