cultic paint, the richly bejewelled Manjushri sits in dhyana-asana on a double lotus throne wearing the five-pointed crown of a bodhisattva. The 'sword of knowledge' and the 'book of transcendent wisdom' (= Indian palm-leaf manuscript) resting on the lotus blossoms growing up beside his shoulders. Holding the long lotus stems, the patron of scholars simultaneously performs the Dharmachakra mudra, bottom plate with a double vajra motif loosely inserted, some stones missing, one lotus stem restored, crooked, H.c.24cm
