A mother-of-pearl inlaid black lacquer chest with hinged cover
Early 19th centuryOf rectangular-section with canted corners, the hinged top (now detached) inlaid with five roundels of differing designs amidst scattered blooms and foliage, opening to reveal a gilt inscription 'Giriqua' within further inlays, the chest with twin brass swing handles and butterfly-shaped escutcheon, the front with scene of three scholars amidst rockwork in powdered mother-of-pearl, further sprays of flowers to sides. 41cm high, 45cm wide, 33cm deep.
