According to David Howard's 'The Choice of the Private Trader' (1994), Cornelis Pronk was appointed by the V.O.C. in 1734 to 'make all designs and models to our satisfaction, of all such porcelain as will be ordered from time to time in the Indies'.Pronk's distinctive designs, of which La Dame au Parasol is perhaps the best known, have appeared in the most prestigious collections of export porcelains ever since.
