THE GE ZUO CONG YI FANGDING A RARE BRONZE RITUAL RECTANGULAR FOOD VESSEL EARLY WESTERN ZHOU DYNASTY, 11TH-10TH CENTURY BC The rectangular body is raised on four columnar supports cast at the top in high relief with taotie masks below notched flanges at the corners of the body. The body is decorated in high relief on each side with rows of pointed bosses framing a rectangular panel, below a band of S-shaped serpents reserved on a leiwen ground and centered on a short flange. The everted rim is set with a pair of inverted U-shaped handles. A four-character inscription is cast on one side of the interior. The bronze has a mottled yellowish-green patina. 8 ? in.
