ZUIHO: VASE IN HU-FORM
Japan, 19th centA very attractive bronzevase; on the bottom is a precisely incised and bordered signature ZUIHO. The four apotropaic masks with rings attached suggest that the artist took an example after Chinese tradition. Their furious appearance is particularly effective on the smooth, polished dark-brown walls. They are demonic beings with flaming eyebrows, staring eyes and a loop-forming trunk coming out of the mouth. The base of the vessel is curved and tiered, body balanced and perfect, neck of medium height - slightly curved – and edged lip around the mouth.Dimensions: HEIGHT 21.2 CMCondition: Good conditionProvenance: From an Austrian collection
