Lacquered wood with engraved silver fittingsJapan, Edo periodA very rare miniature hasamibako (travelling chest) of rectangular form with a lid and inset tray. The entire chest is covered in roiro-nuri lacquer decorated with a pattern of gold hiramaki-e scrolling vines and two gold takamaki-e mon-crest on the lid and on the front side.
