About the artist: The painter Suzuki Kiitsu was born and lived in Edo. He was one of the most popular painters of the the period. Kiitsu pursued studies with the famous Rimpa-artist Sakai Hoitsu (1761-1828). Rimpa was a style of decorative painting – using sumptuous colours on a golden underground – and plays a central role in Japanese Art History.
