COSMETIC CONTAINER
Glazed ceramic
China, Han dynasty (206 BCE - 220 CE)
Splendid, glazed vessel. It is verifiable that this container served to store cosmetics in the burial sites of deceased women. Cylindrical form on three, zoomorphically executed legs and, on the sides, a frieze running around the vessel depicting numerous animals, some in lively motion, in a landscape which is most likely the Daoist heaven. Magnificent, deep-green glaze, in part with a fine silvery shine in the very well-preserved, still-fresh colours, dripping around the rim.
Dimensions: HEIGHT 17 CM
Condition: Good condition with some small glaze chips to the rim
Provenance: Collection of Herbert Keuper, Germany
