A QINGBAI BOWL WITH BLOSSOMS
A QINGBAI BOWL WITH BLOSSOMS
Proto-porcelain
China, Song dynasty (960-1279)
Curved sides atop a delicate ring-shaped foot that, like the bottom, is glazed. Around the flush lip is an unglazed area, both outside and inside, with chipping and some-what darker build up. Framed, in the well, is a blossom; larger blossoms on the sides. This decoration is engraved and the blossom's leaves have the for-the-time very typical, sweeping curve. Above the blossoms is a framing line, above it a ribbon with slanted, strung-together lines.
