A PAIR OF DRAGON-HANDLE VASES
A PAIR OF DRAGON-HANDLE VASES
Proto-porcelain
China, Song dynasty (960-1279)
Two rare pieces, their bodies pear-shaped, each atop a curved, flared foot, the lip also swinging outwards and with multiple indented corners between the inward curves. Especially noticeable are the large, bearded demon masks and their scaled dragon bodies, each located below the curved handles. The heads of the dragons meet with the neck of the vase. Light gray-green glaze, the feet unglazed, the biscuit whitish.
