A TANK-SHAPED BLACK GLAZED CERAMIC VESSEL
A TANK-SHAPED BLACK GLAZED CERAMIC VESSEL
Glazed ceramic
China, Song dynasty (960-1279), c. 12th century
A rare black-glazed vase, with the body tapering towards the foot. The long, ovoid body features light horizontal ribbing, the spout on the round shoulder is short and its lip flush. The deep-black glaze bears dripping patterns as well as accumulation and drop formations in the area around the foot. The biscuit is light-reddish-brown. Scattered small, white encrustations, probably due to the piece having been underwater (shipwreck find).
