STANDING BUDDHA IN FRONT OF FLAMING NIMBUS
STANDING BUDDHA IN FRONT OF FLAMING NIMBUS
Grey stone
China, in the style of the Tang Dynasty
Very good and expressive representation with clear traces of age. The craftsmanship is solid and partially delicate, especially the feet, pleats of robe and wide face, the latter is wide and with introverted esxpression – what hints to Tang age. The figure stands on a black metal base; behind raises a decorative pointed nimbus with four zones – halo shaped as a lotus blossom, halo with sunrays, and with ''rainbow“ pattern, further a zone with very elaborate and lively crafted flames to surround the complete figure. Hands lost, chips to margins, nibus with attached upper section.
Dimensions: HEIGHT (WITHOUT BASE) CA. 67 CM
Condition: Very effectful in terms of age
Provenance: From a South German private collection
