A PAIR OF RED AND CARAMEL SOAPSTONE SEALS WITH PLANTS AND DORMICE – QING / REPUBLIC
Red and grey soapstone with yellowish-white hues and natural inclusions, caramel-yellow soapstone
China, late Qing Dynasty to Republic period
This lot contains two different seals. One, smaller of a red and grey soapstone square base and the top in a nice yellowish-white hue. The top is carved in the shape of two dormice facing each other, crouching on the leafy, field vegetation. Seal face carved. The second in milky-caramel color. Square base and neatly carved top in a form of floral designs, partially in open work. Chinese meander in a low relief runs along the sides under the top carvings. Seal face with roughly cut Chinese signs. On one of the sides Chinese characters.

Condition: Good condition with some minor superficial scratches and nicks
