A LOBED BLUE AND WHITE PORCELAIN DISH WITH FLORAL DEPICTIONS, KANGXI, VUNG TAU CARGO
Blue and white porcelain
China, Kangxi period (1662 – 1722)
The lobed and slightly convex dish with many deep-blue flowers arranged in many reserves around the rim. The center with a circular reserve with a similar depiction and butterflies. The reverse with further flowers. Since this dish was salvaged from the Vung Tau shipwreck, which sunk in 1690, the glaze has been extensively worn through the many years under water, giving it a ‘ceramic’ feel.
Dimensions: DIAMETER 14.6 CM
Condition: Worn condition from being underwater. Small hairline by the rim, very well preserved
Provenance: From the estate of an Austrian private collector, old label from Christie’s Vung Tau cargo sale
