Guanyin is the Chinese mother goddess and when depicted with child is known as Songzi Guanyin. Here she is dressed in a white robe (Baiyi Guanyin), with a high chignon and a necklace. One hand shows the Abhaya mudra, the gesture of fearlessness. The boy in her lap is holding a lotus flower that has not blossomed yet, a charming, symbolic detail. Guanyin herself shows fine, majestic and introverted facial features. The headscarf and shawl are colored yellow and green, respectively. The reverse shows a square opening.
