Copper bronze
Eastern India, Kondh Tribe, late 19th – early 20th century
The female figure is standing upright, in one hand an offering vessel, and with the other she holds a large basket on her head. She has a painted face, large nose and ear rings and ornate jewelry in the form of many spirals across her chest. Pronounced breasts as a symbol for fertility. The composition of the figure bears close resemblance to the depiction of goddesses in the art of the Bastar tribe in central India.
