A BRONZE BASTAR CUP
A BRONZE BASTAR CUP
Bronze
India, Bastar, 19th-20th century
This rare piece once served to measure rice. The flat-bottomed vessel presents the repetitive sun-moon symbol, which was apparently quite meaningful and popular in the Bastar region. A further floral motif is shown on the exterior, as well as running bands with coil and nubs. A delicate braided ring is attached.
