A GROUP OF THREE KONDH AND BASTAR TRIBAL BRONZES
A GROUP OF THREE KONDH AND BASTAR TRIBAL BRONZES
Copper bronze
Central and Eastern India, Kondh and Bastar Tribes, late 19th – early 20th century
This group shows the shared sphere of influence of the two tribes particularly well. The group consists of a standing figure with the characteristic ‘wire mesh pattern’ of the bronze, and two further figures – one figure standing with large ears and breasts, most likely Kondh and a very small Bastar figure with a shield and a sword standing on a base.
