A LAN NA BRONZE FIGURE OF BUDDHA SHAKYAMUNI
Bronze
Lan Na Kingdom, c. 17th-18th century
The Lan Na Kingdom existed during the same time as the Kingdom of Sukhothai and was substantially influenced by it. This bronze figure exhibits this influence in the ketumala flame finial as well as the samghati going down to the navel. The facial features, pointy ears as well as the lotus throne with rowed stamens, on the other hand, are typical for the northern style of Lan Na. One hand shows the Bhummisparsa mudra, touching the earth to witness his enlightenment. Stepped, hexagonal base, black-brown patina.
