U-SHAPED VESSEL WITH A MAN

Peru, Chavín culture, ca. 500 BCE
Nicely burnished vessel similar in the form to a bent and elongated gourd with flat bottom and a curved handle serving as a bridge between the two parts. Topped with the straight spout on one side, while the other is closed with a human head shaped piece. A twisted cloth or ribbon running around the forehead. Large eyes, a wide, narrow mouth and proportionally short man’s body depicted with engraved lines.
The Chavín culture of the Peruvian highlands experienced its golden age from about 850 to 200 BCE.
