Large pair of French Empire ormolu bronze candelabra on granito (granite) orbicolare bases, circa 1820. Exquisite quality ormolu candelabra on very rare original granite bases. The winged figures depicting two cherubs, each holding the candelabra, on square plinths inset with panels of granito orbicolare. Measures: 31″ high x 12″ wide x 12″ deep. Excellent condition. Related winged female figures executed by the celebrated Parisian bronzier-ciseleur Pierre-Philippe Thomire (elected ma?tre-fondeur in 1772) are found on candelabra in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (op. cit. H. Ottomeyer, p. 329).
