The vase is cast to the shoulder with two loose-ring masks handles, and is decorated in relief with a band of archaistic taotie masks, all reserved on a leiwen ground. The band suspends widely-spaced lappets to the body decorated with a stylised cicada design on a leiwen ground.
Provenance: from a private Dutch collection.
Condition: There is an area of repair to the body (approx. 4.5 cm. long) with an associated repaired crack; and a further small patch to the lower body (approx. 0.5 cm.).
There are three small holes to the bronze at the neck (the largest approx. 0.2 cm.)
There is expected wear, small losses, and minor dents consistent with age.
