Chinese Ming Dynasty blue and white Qilin porcelain jar. Having thick body, sturdily potted in a bulbous body, gently tapered on shoulder toward prominent straight neck with a wide opening. The exterior decorated with hand-painting in cobalt underglazed blue depicted a group of Chinese mythical beast Qilin in pursuit of Xiujiu silk ball. Its shoulder bordered with dense of key-fret pattern surrounding flowers inside ruyi shaped cartouches. Which foot bordered with auspicious geometric patterns. The glaze appearance on the blue painting resembled the texture of an orange peel "ju-pi" (chu-p'i) or chicken skin. The underside unglazed, revealed the pale-creme ground revealed and dark grayish brown spotted firing marks and edge-cut foot rim. The porcelain conformed all required specimen to be highly valued Chinese Guanyao porcelain Imperial wares, with the finest material, the whiteness, the glaze, the painting, and the shape.
