A SANCAI-GLAZED POTTERY FIGURE OF A HORSE, TANG DYNASTY (AD 618-907)
The horse is shown mid-stride with the right front leg raised, Its head gently turned to the left and ears pricked forward. The saddle and halter are glazed in brown and green runs down to elongated blankets. The body is covered with a rich amber glaze which runs down the legs. The forelock are highlighted in a straw glaze. It is set on a glazed base. The form of a horse (ma) referred as MaShang FengHou. The horse (ma) is one of the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac and symbolizes speed, power and perseverance. The horse is usually depicted as the bearer of good things, may you immediately be appointed a high ranking position.
