16/17th C. Large Chinese Ming Wanli Reign Period (19 July 1572 - 18 August 1620) Wucai glazed porcelain Fish Pond. A portly deep vessel, with a globular body below a flat banded rim, gently tapered into a flat base. The exterior decorated with hand painting Wucai design under-glazed of a duck swimming in lotus pond between plentiful of bud, lotus blossom and other marine flora. Geometrical pattern banded the rim and foot. The underside unglazed, with pale-creme base and grayish dark spots of firing marks. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant finish that was applied by a meticulous glaze craftsman.
The fish pond marked on the side, under the rim, a horizontal six under-glazed blue script characters, enclosed by rectangular frame, Wanli Reign Period of Great Ming Dynasty. Measurements: Height: 7 1/2" Diameter: 12 1/8"
