STUNNING Chinese Yuan blue and white porcelain pear bottle vase. Finely potted in Chinese traditional YuHuChun shaped vessel. The pear-shaped bottle vase, with a bottom-heavy body, tapered gracefully to the slender-waisted neck, flaring at the rim eventually angling outward at the flared opening, supported on the short spreading footed ring base. The main body decorated with hand painting in pale-underglazed blue of lotus blooms and scrolling foliate amidst thrashing blue Li-Shui waves covered all the vase. The glaze terminating slightly about the foot base revealed the creme-grayish ground and unglazed under-base with dark-brown and black firing marks from kiln process on the foot rim, while the receded central base remain white under-glazed. Encased in blue over pure white underglaze, the immaculate porcelain body covered with a characteristic silky glaze, with small inclusions throughout the finish. The Yuan Dynasty was a period of foreign occupation by the roaming people of Mongolia. During this time many educated Chinese turned to the arts and created such pieces like this. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant finish that was applied by a meticulous glaze craftsman. A characteristic heaped and piled effect, the underglaze grayish-blue concentrates in certain areas, bubbling through the surface of the glaze and turning a deep blue-black. This inadvertently gave texture, energy, and shading to the design. The shape is uniformly proportioned.Measurements: Height: 12 1/4" Diameter: 5 5/8"
