The Buddha separately cast from the base, right hand in vitarka mudra, holding a bottle in left hand, with an unusual engraved scrolled collar, underside with stipple-engraved double vajra.

The present lot and the related examples offered are the gilt bronze Buddhas described by Alexander Weddell in the Virginia House drawing room: "The several small figures of the Buddha or Bodhisattvas' on table or cupboard were brought from India and Burma when [we] were residing in Calcutta, and are museum pieces"
