ANGLO- SAXON GOLD "BRACTEATE" PENDANT, circa 500AD - 550AD, with repousse decoration and a stylised serpent beneath a simple ribbed suspension loop. Provenance: An old private collection, East Sussex. Although the majority of Anglo-Saxon Bracteate have been found in Scandinavia, approximately fifty have been discovered in England, the majority emanating from high status female burials in Eastern Kent. A similar Anglo-Saxon pendant or Bracteate discovered in Shalfleet, Isle of Wight, Hampshire, is recorded under the Portable Antiquities Scheme (2008 T127).
