It sold everything from dry-goods to the most expensive couture fashions, and had an art department, selling fine works of art: prints, drawings, paintings and maps, much like its counterpart, Gump's, in San Francisco. It's existence lasted from 1852 to 2005, when it was renamed Macy's. This painting is an example of the high quality of artwork the store offered to its patrons.Condition: Canvas has been affixed to another canvas, there is evidence exposure to heat, particularly in the lower portion of the canvas, when examined under ultraviolet light, there is no evidence of inpainting and repairs.
