The Oyster Scientific combines several features that make it a milestone in the production of Rolex watches. Firstly, it was designed for scientific use with a need for accuracy so it has a chronometer movement as well as the seconds hand mounted in the centre to give a clear indication of 5ths of a second. The dial itself is often termed as 'exotic' and is rare and unusual example in its scientific configuration. Lastly the 'Oyster' style casing is typical of what was to follow for models known as 'tool' watches for professional use.
