A GOOD JAPANESE SILVER, BRONZE AND ENAMEL VASE
MEIJI 1868-1912
The bulbous body raised on three shaped feet and with a tall flared neck, decorated with a continuous scene of many cockerels, hens and chicks amid ferns and flowers, all applied on a buff ground and depicted in colourful enamels, the foot and neck with formal designs of flowerheads and scrolling tendrils in cloisonné enamels, the base signed Tomomi in a rectangular cartouche, 28.2cm.
Provenance: a private English collection, Wiltshire. Acquired from Percy Bates of 53 St Ann Street, Salisbury, on 14th July 1965. A copy of the original invoice is available.
