Description: Dutch, late 18th. century. H 220 cm With oakwood case, partially mahogany veneered, richly decorated with ornaments. The top has an unusual form and is adorned with a figure of Atlas and two angels. The partially silvered brass dial, decorated with a musical scene, with Roman and Arabic numerals. The dial displays moon, day, date and melody and is signed Carel Tappe Amsterdam. Eight day clockwork with quarter-hourly chime on two bells and 12 melodies. Carel Christoffel Tappé, worked in the late 18th. Century at the Leidseplein in Amsterdam. He is noted as inventor of a special mechanism to play church bells.
