Beautiful drawing in Arondéus’ characteristic symbolistic style of which the title refers to the controversial French novel “Escal-Vigor” (first published in 1899) by the Belgian author Georges Eekhoud (1854-1927) in which homosexuality openly is described. Arondéus was one of the scarce Dutch pre-war homosexuals who publicly expressed his homosexual preference. – Sl. foxed/ browned, but else in good condition (not examined out of frame).
