TWO QAJAR LACQUERED PAPIER-M?CHé PEN CASES (QALAMDAN) Iran, late 19th - early 20th century? Comprising two pen cases, both with rounded ends and sliding tray, the top and sides painted with horizontal compositions, the first with the typical gul-o-bulbul motif, more vegetal decoration on the sides, polychrome-painted against dark ground, the inner tray with gold trellis and scrolling floral tendrils on red ground, 22cm long; the latter with figural cartouches depicting Westernised children at play interspersed by floral cartouches with irises, roses and daffodils, polychrome-painted against light ground, the inner tray with stylised gold lotus scrolls on red ground, 22.5cm long.Notes: Islamic & Indian Art
