A QAJAR LACQUERED PAPIER-M?CHé PEN CASE (QALAMDAN) Iran, mid-19th century, in the style of Abu Talib al-Mudarris? With rounded ends and sliding tray, painted in red, green, yellow and black and heightened with gold, the top and sides painted with an unusual snake skin pattern with uneven veneering and spiralling format, possibly an alternative variation to the?clouds motif (abr-o-bad), the internal tray and underside characterised?by the so-called?'engine-turning' design in black and green over a yellow ground, 21cm long.
