This book is a fine example of a self – published woodblock printed book of the mid Qing period. The six volumes document 240 separate events with accompanying images by Wang Chuquan and other artists. The present expanded edition was compiled posthumously from a lifetime of travel notes from the author Wanyan Lin Qing by his sons Wanyan Chong Shi, and Wanyan Chong Hou, who sourced craftsman in Yangzhou to complete the work as a testament to their father and his work
Wanyan Lin Qing (1791 – 1846), became Jinshi (highest and final degree in the imperial examination) in the fourteenth year of Jiaqing period. He served as the Governor of Rivers State of the Jiangnan region for ten years during the Daoguang period and published widely during his own lifetime.
