Description: a finely cast Japanese Meiji Bronze Running Elephant with Tusks, his right front leg and left rear leg extended, balances and rocks gently on the toes of one foot and the pad of the other, signed beneath, with its later wooden base.

Property descended through the family by C. Lester Walker and Mary Walker in China in the 1920's. Mary was the daughter of Franz August Larson, known as "the Duke of Mongolia" Lester was a teacher at Yale in China, Mary born and raised in China, their marriage took place there in 1927.
