Description: A Satsuma Sake bottle Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912), 19th century Square shaped bottle with long narrow neck and flaring mouth, decorated with various coloured enamels and gold, with large panels to the body depicting a phoenix standing under clouds alternating with panels depicting a flower bouquet and a butterfly, the shoulder with a scrolling band decorated with paulownia and chrysanthemum on a blue ground, the neck and rim decorated with a band of floral lappets, signed to the base.
