A CHINESE CARVED RUSSET BROWN SHOUSHAN SCHOLAR'S ROCK, SIGNED, LATE 20TH CENTURY, of boulder form and raised three script character marks, above shallow relief sides minutely detailed with an ethereal scene of a bearded elder sage and his hesitant attendant youths, gazing towards a distant small pavilion perched on a rocky cliff within a cavernous mountain grotto, while standing on a plank foot bridge beneath the gnarled branches of an ancient pine set high above a sampan floating on the banks of a fog shrouded stream, reversing to a similar view of bearded elder sages conversing while strolling towards a short plank foot bridge set amidst jagged rocky cliffs dotted with old gnarled trees and small roofed dwellings beneath curling wispy clouds.
