A CHINESE EXPORT MOTHER-OF-PEARL, BRASS AND MARBLE INLAID HONGMU COCKTAIL TABLE, LATE QING DYNASTY (1644-1912), the circular top in the form of Buddhist dharmachakra wheel inlaid with engraved mother of pearl plum and dogwood blossoms within brass string inlay, interspersed by inlaid rouge marble plaques, over a pierced scrolling bamboo skirt, raised on serpentine, relief bamboo stalk form legs, joined by two cascading stretchers, the first of wheel spoke form construction, and the other a swirling, serpentine bamboo form, height: 33.50", diameter: 33.75". Note: Virtually identical tables can be seen in antique photographs of the interior of the infamous "Chinese Tuxedo," restaurant in Chinatown, New York City, New York, circa 1905.
