Description: Ca.1300BC Large Chinese earthenware vessel dating to the early Neolithic period of ancient China. Constructed of orange/tan terracotta, without slip or painted decoration. The tall vessel has an elongated body, tapering to point at the bottom. It curves inward at the shoulder and narrows at the neck, then widens to a flared spout. The surface is decorated with cord (rope/twine) impressions that run vertically up the length of the vessel and angle at the shoulder. These cord impressed types typically date to an earlier period, before the later painted designs came into favor. In fair to good condition.. The vessel is otherwise intact and original. Minor scrapes and dings along with earthen encrustation and deposits in the crevices, as would be expected. Overall very attractive and an early example of the type.
